Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.
Viewers can expect discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
